I was very grateful and honoured to be chosen to lead and facilitate this wonderful Social and Therapeutic Horticultural Therapy Programme at The Outback Garden Halifax. Here’s what Sarah Waddington, The Outback Garden Manager had to say…

“The Outback were proud to have been chosen as a creative partner for Creative Minds a charity hosted by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to work in partnership with the local NHS to provide creative projects

and opportunities for people, their carers and local communities. With funding from Creative Minds, we partnered with the Calderdale and Kirklees Recovery and Wellbeing College to deliver our Grow Well – Gardening for Wellbeing course.

We wanted to help people learn new gardening skills, meet new people and improve their well-being by spending time outdoors and connecting with nature. Facilitated by the wonderful Serenity Wellbeing Gardens, the course was a great success and over the 5 weeks the learners have taken part in so many different activities including seed collecting, bulb planting, making bird feeders and lavender bags, separating/planting strawberries and they even produced some fabulous autumnal natural artwork.

After the course, one of the learners told us ‘My health has improved massively, both physically and mentally. With the help, patience and support from the group, I can now see the beautiful side of the world, I find I appreciate the world and nature so much more’.
